2015 New Vehicle Review

Acura TLX

Introduction

Starting at: $30,995

MPG: 21/31

The TLX replaces both the TL and TSX, and offers better proportions, updated styling and 3 engine variants: a 4-cylinder FWD, V-6 FWD, and V-6 with AWD.

Aston Martin V12 Vantage S

Introduction

Starting at: $182,395

MPG: N/A

The 2015 Roadster model comes on the heels of the 2014’s coupe, though the 565hp, 6-liter V12 will never be mistaken for the V8. Ten of the 12 cylinders rest behind the front-axle line, so the V12 remains remarkably nimble despite its extra 190lbs, thanks to the weight distribution.

Audi Q3

Introduction

Starting at: $32,500

MPG: 20/28

This compact SUV aims to compete with the BMW X1, Mercedes-Benz GLA-Class and even the larger Acura RDX. With its inviting price tag and high-quality features, the Q3 is a favorable addition to the Audi lineup.

Bentley Flying Spur

Redesign

Starting at: $195,100

MPG: 12/20

This smaller sedan from Bentley is also its fastest, most powerful model yet – the twinturbocharged 6.0-liter 12-cylinder delivers 616 hp and 590 lb-ft of torque, and covers 0-60 mph in 4.3 seconds, while topping out at 200 mph. Get your vroom on in style!

BMW i8

Introduction

Starting at: $137,450

MPG: 76

The i8 proves that sexy, sporty and saving the environment can happily coexist. With a top speed of 155 mph, 357 horses, 420 lb-ft of torque, achieving 0-60 in 4.5 seconds and an EPA rating of 76 MPGe, BMW is truly marrying "green" with "machine".

Buick Cascada (2016)

Introduction

Starting at: N/A

MPG: N/A

Already popular in Europe under the Opel badge, the Cascada boasts a 1.6 turbocharged four-cylinder making 200 hp that is exclusive in the Buick lineup. A fabric top (which can be dropped in motion) makes for a smooth ride and more trunk space.

Cadillac Escalade

Redesign

Starting at: $72,970

MPG: 14/21

The 2015 Cadillac Escalade finally proves its luxury SUV status with a vastly improved interior design and upscale materials. Leather, stitching, genuine wood and a sharp, high definition multimedia system elevate both the driver and passenger experience.

Chevrolet Volt (2016)

Redesign

Starting at: N/A

MPG: N/A

The highly anticipated 2016 Volt delivers an exciting update to the original. New looks, reduced weight, new electric and gas power units and extended range bring an impressive jolt to the segment and increase competition among hybrid shoppers.

Chrysler 300

Redesign

Starting at: $31,395

MPG: N/A

The new 300 arrives with a redesigned front end, updated styling cues and technical details, and a better trim level in response to competition from Hyundai and Chevrolet. Touches like Nappa leather, Olive Ash Burl wood, chrome accents and quilted door panels elevate the experience.

Dodge Charger Hellcat

Redesign

Starting at: $62,295

MPG: 13/22

This growling, furious feat of engineering is pretty much like all the other Chargers on the lot, at least until you open the hood, where you’ll find a supercharged 6.2-liter V8 that makes a whopping 707 horsepower (!) and 650 lb-ft of torque. Dodge says it’ll sprint 0-60 in under 4 seconds and tops 200 mph, so if you see it the rearview, it’s time to move over.

Ferrari California T Convertible

Introduction

Starting at: $202,723

MPG: 16/23

The "T" stands for "Turbo", and this engine is based on the Maserati V-8, though the resemblance stops there. The Ferrari features complex headers which feed equally spaced exhaust pulses to twin-scroll turbos. Ferrari freely admits the engine is downsized, but the sacrifice is in pursuit of freedom from the gas-guzzler tax, and the estimated 16/23 MPG certainly stands out.

Fiat 500X (2016)

Introduction

Starting at: N/A

MPG: N/A

This MINI Countryman competitor is actually built upon the new Jeep Renegade’s platform. Like its competition, this introduction far exceeds its predecessors’ dimensions. The 500X options include AWD and two diesel engine choices.

Ford F-150

Redesign

Starting at: $25,420

MPG: N/A

The only obvious visual clues to the F-150’s massive redesign are the distinctive headlights and restyled grille. Underneath the paint, however, lies a brand new vehicle. Made from lightweight military-grade aluminum and a ladder-reinforced frame, the 2015 model has dropped 700 pounds for better fuel economy and acceleration.

GMC Canyon

Introduction

Starting at: $20,955

MPG: 20/27

The GMC Canyon offers three trim levels and either 2- or 4WD. The light duty base model delivers 193 hp and 184 lb-ft of torque from a 2.5-liter 4-cylinder, while upgrading the 3.6-liter V6 brings 302 hp and 270 lb-ft of torque. A 2.8-liter turbodiesel is expected for 2016.

Honda Fit

Redesign

Starting at: $15,650

MPG: 29/37

The delightful Honda Fit is back for 2015, with added quirkiness. The fuel economy is better than ever, and the exterior styling touches add some needed maturity. Despite it’s compact casing, the Fit does it fact, fit quite a lot, thanks to a "magic" seat which can fold completely flat or flip its bottom up to deliver 53 cubic feet.

Hyundai Genesis

Redesign

Starting at: $38,000

MPG: 15/23

The traditionally RWD Genesis is fully redesigned for 2015, and now offers optional AWD for those in snowy regions. Extra attention has been paid to the interior, to bring it up to par with its luxury European and Japanese rivals. The Genesis also features the latest in hands-free tech – stand next to the trunk for 3 seconds and the lid will pop open!

Infiniti Q30 (2016)

Introduction

Starting at: N/A

MPG: N/A

Benefiting from the Renault-Nissan-Daimler partnership, the Infinifi Q30 is built upon a Mercedes platform and engine, giving it the premium feel throughout the vehicle. Bold curves and cinched creases should do the trick in separating the Q30 from the car pool line.

Jaguar XE (2016)

Introduction

Starting at: N/A

MPG: N/A

After retiring the X-Type, Jaguar looks to once again entice the entry-level luxury sedan market, and challenge the Audi A4, BMW 3 Series and Mercedes-Benz C-Class. This "Baby Jag" will have a supercharged V6, lightweight chassis and rear- and allwheel drive. Expect a sporty exterior and performance, accompanied by a clean, minimalist inspired interior.

Jeep Renegade

Introduction

Starting at: N/A

MPG: N/A

With the Renegade, Jeep brings some serious off-road attitude to the compact crossover class. Asphalt explorers will enjoy the comforts of FWD, turbo and non-turbo engine choices and all the luxury touches of the brand, including a double sunroof. The Jeep faithful will be pleased to note the optional 4WD, 17-inch wheels and Selec- Terrain dynamic modes.

Kia Sorento (2016)

Introduction

Starting at: $30,417

MPG: 20/27

The 2016 Sorento is all grown up. Adding significant interior space and upgraded materials, the all-new Sorento graduates from its reputation as a slightly larger compact SUV to its new perception as solid family driver.

Lamborghini Huracán

Introduction

Starting at: $237,250

MPG: N/A

The Gallardo’s glorious 10-year run comes to an end, but its replacement has swept in on the changing winds. Lamborghini aims to please a broader crowd by combining top performance with less intimidating road behavior. While the Huracán may be named for a fighting bull, it’ll still rock you like a… well, you know.

Land Rover Discovery Sport

Introduction

Starting at: $34,844

MPG: 20/26

The all-new Discovery Sport satisfies those who like to ford both rivers and tarmac. This compact crossover SUV maintains the exterior style and the interior comfort of current designs, while honoring its brand’s heritage of off-road excellence.

Lexus RC

Introduction

Starting at: $42,790

MPG: 19/26

Rather than produce the IS as a coupe, Lexus has introduced a new line with the RC. It offers the same 306-hp V6 used by the current IS and GS sedans, and will be followed by a high-performance model, the RC-F, to match the BMW M4.

Lincoln MKC

Introduction

Starting at: $33,100

MPG: 19/26

The MKC announces Lincoln’s first entrance into the hot compact luxury crossover segment. With heavy competition from Buick to Porsche, the MKC delivers more stylistic flair and luxury than the Ford Escape it’s mechanically based on. A hybrid version is likely to follow.

Maserati Ghibli

Introduction

Starting at: $66,850

MPG: 15/25

Maserati hopes to gain some competitive traction with this midsize luxury sedan, which will be priced near BMW and Mercedes territory. Much of the Ghibli is based on the flagship Quattroporte, though its wellequipped S Q4 model stands out, with an upgraded turbo V6 delivering 404 hp and 406 lb-ft of torque.

Mazda CX-3 (2016)

Introduction

Starting at: N/A

MPG: N/A

Yet another drop in the compact crossover pond comes from Mazda with the introduction of the CX-3. This entry promises a sportier edge, in keeping with Mazda’s recent line-up. The CX-3 will offer plenty of comfort though, with the complete suite of i-Activsense technologies, infotainment system and AWD all optional.

Mercedes-Benz GLA

Introduction

Starting at: $31,894

MPG: 24/32

Mercedes-Benz hops into the small crossover segment with the GLA, joining the likes of Audi, BMW and Infiniti. Like its competition, the GLA offers a smaller (and less expensive) option than a full size SUV, without scrimping on quality. However, the GLA stands out in this new class with the elevated seating and premium experience buyers are looking for.

MINI Hardtop

Redesign

Starting at: $20,700

MPG: 24/34

An updated engine and new chassis help improve fuel economy, and interior refinements offer a more comfortable ride in the new 2015 MINI. With many platform and engine developments swiped from the new small BMW lineup, the MINI is a nice alternative if the 1-Series is out of reach.

Nissan Murano

Redesign

Starting at: N/A

MPG: N/A

The 2015 Murano is fully redesigned, with more style, power and improved fuel economy. Despite being longer, wider and sitting lower to the ground, it is also lighter and more efficient, yielding a 20% better MPG prediction from Nissan. Premium options include a full compliment of safety features and interior comforts.

Porsche Macan

Introduction

Starting at: $49,900

MPG: 17/23

A smaller SUV offering than the Cayenne, the all-new Macan is also AWD, and aims to lead the pack in the small luxury crossover segment. Considering that the family friendly Cayenne and Panamera both dominate Porsche’s sales, expect the Macan to prove a popular third option.

RAM 1500

Refresh

Starting at: $25,060

MPG: 13/19

After some major improvements in 2013, the RAM 1500 continues to please, offering a new turbodiesel V6 engine, the only one in its class. Add that fuel-economy improving feature to its excellent suspension, and the Ram remains a top pick among critics for another year.

Scion tC

Refresh

Starting at: $19,210

MPG: 23/31

Not surprisingly, the tC’s styling cues have been updated to fall in line with its newer, splashier big brother, the F-RS. The tC is a nice choice for buyers who want a little extra style and performance from their coupe, and the latest model doesn’t stray from this winning formula.

Smart fortwo (2016)

Redesign

Starting at: N/A

MPG: N/A

The next generation Smart car is a true revolution. While adding length would detract from the brand’s intentions, the new Fortwo has smartly (wink wink) added 4 inches in width, which makes a world of difference. With a number of upgraded materials, the interior is dramatically improved, while exterior styling upgrades and an all-you-can-eat buffet of optional features should make the city dwellers rejoice.

Subaru Outback

Redesign

Starting at: $24,895

MPG: 20/27

The redesigned Outback boast nearly 3 cubic feet in added interior space, as well as upgraded cabin materials and improved fuel economy. Many safety features like the rearview camera and AWD come standard, and the comfortable starting price allows room for options.

Toyota Mirai FCV

Introduction

Starting at: N/A

MPG: N/A

Unlike the EVs and plug-in hybrids on the market, the Toyota Mirai will be able to travel 300 miles on a single tank of hydrogen and refuel in 3-5 minutes. While infrastructure is lacking, Toyota is planning to build fueling stations throughout the Northeastern corridor. Expect the FCV market to heat up even more in 2016, when Honda introduces its new hydrogen powered model.

Volkswagen e-Golf

Introduction

Starting at: $35,445

MPG: 126/105

The good folks at VW know not to mess with a good thing; therefore, the all-new e-Golf looks the same as its fuel-powered siblings, and is just as much fun to drive. The battery pack is located under the seats, so neither cargo space nor handling quality is lost.

Volvo S60/V60

Redesign

Starting at: $36,225

MPG: 26/38

Volvo looks to revive its wagon legacy in the U.S. with the V60. The FWD model offers a new turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine making 246 hp and 258 lb-ft of torque, while the AWD model offers two choices – a 2.5-liter inline five-cylinder delivering 250 hp and 266 lb-ft or a turbocharged 3.0-liter inline six-cylinder delivering 325 hp and 354 lb-ft of torque.

Colorado Automobile Dealers Association Chairman Thom Buckley

I’m always excited when the Denver Auto Show rolls around. I’m a "car guy" through and through. I started working on them in my high school shop classes in Colorado Springs, and learned even more in the Automotive Service Education Program at Arapahoe Community College. I began my formal automotive career as a line technician at Red Noland Cadillac in Colorado Springs, eventually working my way up to the point where my business partner and I were able to buy the dealership.

For car nuts like me, the Denver Auto Show is a bit like a candy store. With almost 40 different brands exhibiting at the same time on the show floor at the Colorado Convention Center, it’s a great opportunity to see and compare what’s currently on the market. There is not another venue between L.A. and Chicago that affords the consumer (or any fan of todays’ automobiles) this type of opportunity to compare so many different makes and models all under one roof.

Cars have come a long way since I took that first shop class. The technology that automakers have installed is simply amazing and has transformed personal transportation. The different ways of interacting with our vehicles and all the things they can do for the users can be truly mind-blowing. This current crop of automobiles and light trucks is the safest and most efficient ever. It’s also the cleanest.

That’s pretty important as Coloradans try to juggle the need to get to work and transport their families to all the places they need to go with their desire to live in a clean and healthy environment. And, of course, they want to have some fun doing it, too!

The members of the Colorado Automobile Dealers Association take the environment very seriously. CADA has partnered with Colorado’s new vehicle dealerships, as well as the public, to remove older, higher-emission vehicles from our streets through the creation of the Clear the Air Foundation. The net proceeds from this year’s Denver Auto Show Charity Preview Party will go toward supporting the efforts of the Clear the Air Foundation, National Jewish Health in treating environmentally related breathing disorders and the Denver Post Community Foundation. The Clear the Air Foundation also provides scholarship support for students studying for careers in the automotive and technology sectors. The Clear the Air Foundation and the Colorado Automobile Dealers Association are proud to be able to contribute to educating the next generation of people who will continue the trend toward cleaner, more efficient, and safer automobiles and light trucks.

Denver Auto Show Chairman Gregg Stone

Welcome to the 114th edition of the Denver Auto Show. The Colorado Automobile Dealers Association’s annual celebration of all things automotive provides a great opportunity for families to compare and contrast the many vehicles offered by almost 40 different new car and truck manufacturers. I’m excited to be the chairman of this year’s show.

We’ve made an effort to make this a friendly environment where you can get lots of automotive information from helpful, informed associates and see what suits your family’s needs, budgets and desires. No hard sales pitches, just lots of cars and trucks to fit your dreams…and your budget.

That’s important because our research tells us that about 53 percent of the people who attend this year’s Denver Auto Show are considering buying a new car in the next 12 months. Personal transportation choices are important because here in Colorado, 87 percent of the population drive to work and have an average 24-minute commute. People spend a lot of time in their vehicles.

I moved to Denver with my wife of 32 years, Laura, from the Minneapolis area eight years ago to be a partner at Kuni Lexus of Greenwood Village. I started in the automobile business more than 30 years ago, selling Toyotas while I was in college. I absolutely fell in love with the industry and worked my way up to general manager and finally to the ownership role at Kuni. We love it here in Colorado – the lifestyle and the opportunities that the car business has offered us have been wonderful.

There have been many changes over the past few years in how people choose and purchase their personal transportation. Dealers have created a more transparent and open information relationship with our guests. It’s much less old school than it once was. We do our best to give people all the information they want and need so they can make informed decisions.

The Internet has also had a major impact on how vehicles are chosen. People can virtually shop and create a list of what they want and need before they visit the dealership. And there’s so much more to choose from than ever before - conventional gas-powered vehicles, diesels and alternative-energy vehicles such as hybrid, plug-in electric, even hydrogen fuel cells.

But there’s no substitute for being able to see all of the possibilities in person – to be able to sit in them, smell them and ask lots of questions. That’s the purpose of the Denver Auto Show. I hope you’ll enjoy it as much as we enjoy putting it on.

Thanks to our sponsors

The Colorado Automobile Dealers Association would like to thank our sponsors for their participation in presenting the 2015 Denver Auto Show. Their involvement helps us to produce the leading auto show in the Mountain West. We encourage you to express your appreciation to them by considering their products and services when you make your next purchase.
