2008 Saab 9-3

9-3
The 2008 Saab 9-3 range sports major exterior enhancements inspired by the acclaimed Aero X Concept, as well as a first for Saab: all-wheel drive called XWD. The 2008 9-3 range incorporates the eye-catching design cues of the Aero X Concept, with a powerful new front end including a larger grille, smaller side grilles and semi-overwrap V-shaped hood. New front fenders; new headlamps, fog lamps and taillamps; new front and rear bumpers (Aero receives unique front and rear bumpers with a matte chrome fog lamp surround); color-matched Aero rocker panels on all models and new door handles also update the 9-3 exteriors.

9-7X
For 2008, a new Cocoa Metallic paint choice is offered on the 9-7X, whose signature styling cues produce a more European look. Saab's traditional three-port grille sits up front, and the company says the 9-7X doesn't have any protruding shapes and forms, resulting in a clean, uninterrupted appearance. Aluminum- alloy wheels hold 18-inch tires. Built on a 113-inch wheelbase, the 9-7X is 193.2 inches long overall. Two engines are available for the 9-7X. GM's 4.2-liter inline-6-cylinder produces 285 horsepower and 276 pounds-feet of torque. The 5.3-liter V-8 generates 300 hp and 321 pounds-feet of torque and comes equipped with fuel-saving Displacement on Demand technology, which disables half the cylinders when they're not needed. Both engines mate with a 4-speed automatic transmission.

9-5
The 9-5 is Saab's top-of-the-line car, and it competes with cars such as the Acura TL, Volvo S60 and Lincoln MKZ. It's available as both a sedan and wagon, which Saab calls a SportCombi. All 9-5s are front-wheel drive and are powered by a 260-horsepower, turbocharged 2.3-liter 4-cylinder engine. The 9-5 was extensively redesigned for 2006 and receives only minor changes for 2008. The 9-5 can seat up to five people. In both the sedan and SportCombi, upright chairlike seating permits comfortable posture, and leather-upholstered seats are standard. The audio system includes MP3-play capability, XM Satellite Radio and an in-dash six-CD changer. Satellite radio and the CD changer are not available if you opt for the optional DVD navigation system. Dual-zone automatic air conditioning and eight-way power-adjustable front seats with three memory settings for the driver's seat are standard. The front-wheel-drive 9-5's turbocharged 2.3-liter four-cylinder generates 260 hp and 258 pounds-feet of torque.

A 5-speed manual gearbox is standard, and a 5-speed automatic transmission that permits manual gear selection is optional.
