2008 Lincoln MKX

MKX
The award-winning luxury Lincoln MKX crossover combines modern Lincoln design with a sporty stance, powerful engine and quiet interior. It also boasts such technological advances as adaptive headlamps that move with the steering wheel, a panoramic glass Vista Roof, heated and cooled front seats, heated rear seats, 14-speaker THX II-Certified audio system, and a voice-activated navigation system. A suite of standard safety features including AdvanceTrac with Roll Stability Control and solid unibody construction have helped the Lincoln MKX earn a Top Safety Pick from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety. Also standard are power lumbar driver and front passenger seats, easy entry driver's seat, memory driver's seat and side mirrors, auto-dimming driver's side mirror and Reverse Sensing System.

Navigator
Lincoln redesigned its full-size luxury SUV for 2007, revamping the grille and sprucing up the interior. For 2008, Lincoln made some optional features standard, including a power liftgate, power-folding third-row seats, and a 14-speaker audio system with satellite radio.

A rearview camera system is a new option.

A longer-wheelbase model, the Navigator L, joined the lineup for 2007.

Throughout all eight seating positions - and beyond - this is a well-thought-out interior. The front seats are each adjustable 10 ways, and adjustable pedals add to the driver's comfort. Both front seats are heated and cooled, and all eight seats are covered in leather. The Navigator can have either rear- or 4-wheel drive and is powered by a 300-horsepower, 5.4-liter V-8 engine that produces 365 pounds-feet of torque. A 6-speed automatic is the sole transmission, and the Navigator can tow up to 8,950 pounds when properly equipped.

2008 Mercury Mariner

Mariner Hybrid
The 2008 Mercury Mariner Hybrid is a stylish, upscale small sport-utility vehicle with nimble handling and impressive performance, along with ample cargo and towing capacity. It's an environmentally conscious SUV with remarkable fuel efficiency, and also meets the cleanest emissions rating achievable by a fossil-fuel vehicle (California's Advanced Technology Partial Zero Emissions Vehicle standard).

The Mariner Hybrid comes with a 2.3-liter DOHC 16-valve Atkinson cycle 4-cylinder engine and a permanent magnet AC synchronous motor. The gasoline engine produces 133 horsepower at 6,000 rpm and 124 pound-feet of torque at 4,250 rpm. The electric motor produces 70 kw at 5,000 rpm and 330V maximum voltage. The net result is 155 horsepower with 0-60 times comparable to a 200 horsepower V-6 engine and a boost in city driving fuel economy of nearly 75 percent. A smooth-shifting, electronically controlled Continuously Variable Transmission (CVT) is the only available transmission on the hybrid model.

Configured as a “full hybrid,” Mariner's powertrain is able to propel the SUV to 25 mph solely with electric power. When the vehicle's 133 horsepower isn't required - during coasting, at stoplights or crawling at low speeds through traffic - the gasoline engine automatically shuts down to conserve fuel and curb emissions. Mariner Hybrid will be available for the first time with a choice of front-wheel drive or 4-wheel drive.

2008 Mercury Sable

Sable
Mercury's full-size Montego sedan has been caught in Ford's nameplate switcheroo. It's now called the Sable, recalling Mercury's twin to the Ford Taurus of 1990s eminence. Ford says 60 percent of customers remember the Sable, and it's hoping to cash in on those memories with the name change. But the changes are more than nameplate-deep. The Sable gets updated styling, a quieter cabin and more safety features than its predecessor. Under the hood, a larger V-6 cranks out 30 percent more power. The new engine makes an estimated 260 horsepower - 30 percent more than before. A 6-speed automatic transmission is standard, and all-wheel drive is available.

2008 Mercury Milan

Milan
The Mercury Milan is related to the Ford Fusion and Lincoln MKZ and competes in the midsize sedan category against the Toyota Camry, Honda Accord and Buick LaCrosse. The biggest change for 2008 is the addition of a new “Sync” package that synchronizes phones and other media devices, then makes them voice-activated. The navigation system is also newly voice-activated for 2008. The Milan is Mercury's most-affordable model, but is billed by the automaker as upscale and expressive. It's powered by either a 2.3-liter 4-cylinder or a 3.0-liter V-6.
