2008 Jeep Liberty

Liberty
The new-from-the-ground-up 2008 Jeep Liberty stays true to the brand's core values of freedom, authenticity, mastery and the capability to go anywhere. The Liberty's redesigned exterior takes on a more rugged, classic Jeep look. On-road ride and handling have been improved and refined with the new independent front suspension, new five-link rear suspension and rack-and-pinion steering. Jeep Liberty also has an industry first: the new Sky Slider full open canvas roof, which gives it that “Only in a Jeep” open-air experience. Jeep Trail Rated is a unique methodology used by Jeep Engineering to measure and predict off-road performance for all Jeep vehicles today and into the future.

2008 Jeep Grand Cherokee

Grand Cherokee
The Jeep Grand Cherokee midsize SUV gets an update for the 2008 model year that includes a more powerful 4.7-liter V-8 engine and newly available entertainment options, including a MyGIG navigation and entertainment system and Sirius Backseat TV.

The Grand Cherokee is currently one of the few SUVs with an available diesel engine, but more automakers are expected to introduce diesels for their SUVs in the coming years.

The Grand Cherokee's 3.7-liter V-6, 5.7-liter V-8, 6.1-liter V-8 and 3.0-liter diesel V-6 carry over unchanged from the prior model year, but the 4.7-liter V-8 receives a number of changes, including a higher compression ratio and new induction system; it makes 305 horsepower and 334 pounds-feet of torque. All engines team with a 5-speed automatic transmission.

Commander
A host of changes for 2008 aim to make Jeep's Commander SUV more family-friendly. Satellite TV is now available for backseat passengers, and those up front get an optional MyGIG entertainment system that stores up to 1,600 songs. On the mechanical front, the Commander's available 4.7-liter V-8 gets a generous power upgrade. Introduced in 2006, the Commander is the first Jeep product to have three rows of seats. Sport, Limited and Overland trim levels are available, as are three 4-wheel-drive systems. Optional features include a power liftgate, Command View skylights, backseat TV and a navigation system. Designers looked to 1940s Willys utility vehicles and later Jeep Wagoneers for guidance, and inspiration also came from the company's Cherokee SUV, which was replaced by the Liberty in 2002. Commanders get the same 4-wheel-drive systems, suspension and powertrains as the Grand Cherokee, including an independent front suspension and rack-and-pinion steering. Buyers can choose a 3.7-liter V-6, a 4.7-liter V-8 or a 5.7-liter Hemi V-8.
